Tirta Ganga is one of the cultural heritage site which was built in 1948 by the last King of Krangasem Kingdom namely Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem (I Gusti Bagus Jelantik) dedicated to his childerens and used as the common property. Since 1981 the management of Taman Tirta Gangga was handed over to Dr. Anak Agung Made Djelantik. Taman Tirta Gangga is located in Ababi village, Abang District, Karangasem regency, about 83 km from Denpasar or 6 km north of Amlapura (capital of Karangasem regency). From Denpasar its approximately 2 hours drive.
The area of Tirta Ganga is about 1.8 ha and consists of three levels of land which stretches from the east to the west side. At the secondary level (Bwah) there are eleven fountains called Nawa Sanga fountain. And at the first level (Bhur) is on the left side of the road, straight from the entrance to the west there is a large pond with an small island in the middle of the pond. Tirta Ganga architecture is a blend of European, Chinese and traditional Balinese style architecture. Surrounded by very beautiful panorama, thus making Tirta Ganga become an important tour destinations to visit in the East path. Tirta gangga derived from Tirta which mean blessed water and Gangga taken from the name of the Gangga river in India. The water in Tirtaganga was regarded as sacred water by Hindus people in Bali. This water is used for religious ceremonies in temples around of Tirta Gangga Area. The water source of Tirta Ganga produce pure water iu a big amount. One of the three streams of water is used to provide drinking water for the city of Amlapura. Some poured into the top of the swimming pool through underground pipes, while the others go into the lower pool and to irrigate the rice fields which surrounding this water garden.
