Tanah Lot is one of the famous and must visited tourist attraction in Bali. Located in Beraban Village, Kediri District, Tabanan. The distance is about 13 km to the west of Tabanan city. From Ngurah Rai airport can be reached in less than 1 hour if there is no traffic.
There are two temples in Tanah Lot, one located above the slab of the rock and the other temples is at the north on the rocks above the cliff overhanging to the sea. Pura Tanah Lot is Temple is a part of Sad Kahyangan Temple situated in the middle of the beach area. Tanah Lot Temple is a place to revere the God of the sea. Tanah Lot is famous as a beautiful place to see the sunset, many traveler come to Tanah Lot to see the beautiful sunset.
According to legend, Tanah Lot temple was built by a Priest named Dang Hyang Nirartha which is Hinduism. He succeed strengthen the belief the local people of Beraban Village to permeated the Hindus and introduce the concept of Sad Kahyangan Temple. Bendesa (leader of the village) Beraban is most influential people in the Beraban village was feel unrivaled and many of his followers left him and became a follower of Dang Hyang Nirarta and because of it then Bendesa Beraban repel Dang Hyang Nirartha to left Tanah Lot and Beraban Village.
Before leaving Tanah Lot with all his spiritual power Dang Hyang Nirartha move the big chunks of stone into the middle of the beach, then build a temple there. He also changed her shawl into a snake with tripped black-yellow color that guards the temple. The local people belief that these snakes are still exist till now. Bendesa Beraban was amazed and became a follower of Dang Hyang Nirartha.
