LOVINA
HOTELS AREA
In the western part of Singaraja, long stretch of black
sand beach encompasses Anturan, Tukad Mungga, Kalibukbuk,
Kaliasem and Temukus villages collectively called Lovina.
Lining up of busy losmen and hotels with the depleted shady
sea makes Lovina one of the most stirring beaches in Bali.
Tranquility, incredible under water world and dolphins are
the magnetism of Lovina. From Lovina, visiting Pulau Menjangan,
which is a part of West Bali National Park will be interesting
for diving lover.
Long isolated from the South by the North-Central volcanic
ridge and vast expanses of primary forest, it has developed
its own social and cultural features. The regency of Buleleng
stretches along almost the whole length of the island. Its
territory consists of steep mountain slopes plunging into
a narrow coastal plain. Singaraja, Bali's second largest
city, is located in the middle, almost to the top of the
northern bulge on the island's map.
Westward, tourists looking for a quiet beach resort head
for Lovina, a long stretch of beach hotels and bungalows
10 km to the West of Singaraja. The black sand beach is
safe and a perfect place for swimming and snorkelling. Lovina
also offers dolphin viewing. It is the perfect basis for
the discovery of Northern Bali. Further to the West of Lovina
the coastal road takes us to the small towns of Banjar and
Seririt. Banjar is host to the only Buddhist monastery of
the island, built by a Brahmin who converted to Theravada
Buddhism in the 50s, while retaining his traditional Balinese
following. The monastery, a blend of Balinese and mainland
Southeast Asian architecture, offers a stunning panorama
down to the sea. Banjar has also hot springs popular with
the local people and tourists from Lovina. Up the road,
driving from the dry coastal area to increasingly lush landscapes,
one reaches the small Bali Aga village of Pedawa, with its
unique shrines from bamboo.
