Pejeng
The Pejeng region has some of Bali's most prehistoric monuments
and leftovers. With the location in a verdant green valley
surrounded by terraced rice paddies, there are 10 impressive
rock-cut holy places of Gunung Kawi. The shrines are engraved
out of the rock face in a reproduction of actual statues.
Another important sites are the rock carvings at Yeh Pulu,
the Pura Samuan Tiga and Goa Gajah (the elephant cave).
One of the most impressive ancient times heritage is Pura
Penataran Sasih. This temple was the religious center of
the old Pejeng Kingdom.
